Regulation for driving licence B - Brussels

The regulation – Theory exam


Required age: 17 years

The theory exam consists of a test of50 multiple choice questions, conducted on a computer in anapproved examination centre.

  • Passing threshold: minimum41/50

  • Validity : the passing of the theory exam is validfor 3 years

    👉 The practical exam must be passed within this period, otherwise the theory exam will need to be retaken.

ℹ️ Information

  • Aftertwo failuresin the theory exam, it ismandatory to complete or retake 12 hours of lessonsat a driving school.

  • Acertificatewill be issued to you to regain access to the examination centre.

    ⚠️ This certificate is issuedonlyif the12 hours of lessons have been completed in full.


Specific rule – Brussels-Capital Region

For theprovisional licences issued after 31/10/2018, it is imperative to havepassed the theoretical exam in Brusselsin order to be able to take the practical exam in the Brussels-Capital Region.

Regulations - practical lessons


Age requirements

  • From 17 years oldfor thefree programme

  • From 18 years oldfor the20-hour and 30-hour programmes

Practical lessons areindividual and personalised lessons, tailored to the learning capacity of each student. They are scheduled according to your availability and that of the driving school.

 Lessons are conducted in2-hour blocks, in adual-control training vehicle, ensuring a safe learning experience.


Regulations - driving internship


Driving internship(30H programme accepted)

Before you can take the practical exam, you must complete a driving internship under a provisional driving licence (PCP), issued by your local authority.

⚠️ The provisional licence:

  • is only valid in Belgium;

  • does not allow driving between 10pm and 6am on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and the eve of public holidays.

Types of internship

  • Internship with a guide (from 17 years old)

You must be accompanied at all times by a person holding a European driving licence, issued for at least 8 years.

  • Internship without a guide (from 18 years old – 20-hour course)

If you complete 20 hours of lessons, you can:

  • Drive alone, subject to passing the aptitude test
  • or be accompanied by one or two people holding a category B licence for a minimum of 8 years


Logbook and mileage

Throughout your internship, you must complete a logbook, which must be kept in the vehicle.

You should include the following:

  • Your progress,
  • The number of kilometres travelled,
  • The driving conditions

Minimum required mileage

  • Open route: minimum 1500 km
  • Solo route (20h): minimum 1000 km

First aid training


The first aid training consists oftwo mandatory parts :

1️⃣ Theoretical part

A 3-hour e-learning course, to be taken online via the official platform:

2️⃣ Practical part

A practical training of1h30, provided by theRed Cross, at the following address:

The training isvalid for 2 years.

⚠️ Attention

This training must be completedafter passing the theoretical examandbefore the risk perception test.




The risk perception test


Risk perception

(First part of the practical exam – public road)

Therisk perception testis thefirst mandatory stepof the practical driving exam on the public road.

It must be passedafter the minimum training period(or after30 hours of practical lessons with certification) andbefore you can schedule the practical exam.

Conditions to take the test

To access the risk perception test, you must:

  • havepassed the theoretical examof the Brussels-Capital Region withinthe last 3 years ;

  • having completed thefirst aid trainingforless than 2 yearsor having avalid exemption ;

  • having completed thepractical course hoursand completed theminimum internship, according to the chosen training pathway.

Test procedure

  • The test is conductedon a computerin anapproved Brussels examination centre

    (Schaerbeek or Anderlecht).

  • ⚠️ Attention: the test must be takenat the same examination centrewhere you will take your practical exam.

  • The practical exam on public roadscannot be bookedwithout prior success in the risk perception test.

Practical arrangements

  • No appointment necessary

  • FromMonday to Friday, from10:00 to 16:00

  • 📍 Colonel Bourg Examination Centre

  • Price: €46

  • Pass mark: minimum60 %

  • Validityof the pass:1 year

Exam failures

Aftertwo consecutive failuresin the practical exam, namely:

  • two failures in the risk perception test,or

  • two failures in the practical test on the public road,or

  • one failure in the risk perception testandone failure in the practical test on the public road,

it becomesmandatoryto undergo a6-hour practical training courseat anapproved driving schooland to present theteaching certificatebefore being able to retake the exam.
